If you did not give me love (যদি প্রেম দিলে না প্রাণে) is a song written and composed by Rabindranath Tagore. He wrote and composed the song in 1938, just three years before he passed away. The song uses the Sahana raag–-a popular musical scale in Carnatic music, while the taal is Ektal–-a very common musical meter in Tagore's songs.

Here is my futile attempt to translate this beautiful song. Apologies in advance for my poor English.

If you did not give me love

If you did not infuse my heart with love, then
Why paint the dawn sky with such colors,
Why thread garlands of stars and galaxies,
Why make a field of flowers my shelter,
Why make the south wind reveal its secrets?
If you did not imbue my soul with poetry, then
Why does the sky gaze so intently into my eyes,
Why do I go crazy, moment to moment,
Why does my heart want who it wants?

কেন আকাশ তবে এমন চাওয়া চায় এ মুখের পানে?
তবে ক্ষণে ক্ষণে কেন
